John relies on imagination to create variations of reality.

In order for something to exist at all, the first thing it needs to be is imagined. 
The same way an Architect envisions a building before he draws it, an Artist envisions a picture before it is created. You could say that each thing you look at, 
is itself, a work of art; because the first thing it had to be was imagined.
